Keep Your Light On
It’s not a secret there has been some political tension in our country with the recent election. Add into the mix all the usual crazy noise that bombards us every day and it can be difficult to stay positive and happy. Several of my friends have said they are exhausted from the many conflicts and issues in their lives, and they have taken a step back to improve their mental health.
One way to keep our mental health strong and influence others is to stay focused on keeping our light on and making our corner brighter and better. Hopefully, our actions will have a domino effect and we will make a small positive impact expanding to have a greater outcome.
Here are a few ideas to try to stay focused on having positive mental health.
Turn off the noise. I enjoy watching the news because I want to stay informed, but sometimes all the negativity overwhelms me, and I need to step away. I do the same thing with social media. The emotions and requests from social media can swamp me, so I have to shut it down and take a break. Use quiet to heal your mind.
Realize we are seeing the same problems. When you start to worry that our world is out of control and everyone is becoming loony, realize that we have been dealing with a lot of the same issues for a long time. That is not very comforting, but at least you know that life carries on despite our struggles.
Make things brighter where you are. You might not be able to solve the conflict in Ukraine, but what can you do where you are? Small acts can have big effects, and you can inspire others to do the same.
Look for inspiration. Find glimmers of hope and inspiration. Stay clear of negativity and focus on the possibilities.
Take care of yourself. Practice self-care and take care of your health.
