An Unusual Encounter

Emily went to find Sophie. Emily and Sophie were more like sisters than friends. They shared tutors and adventures, and although their last names were different, both families felt like one.

Emily loved visiting Sophie’s house because chaos reigned with noise and excitement. The house was also full of love. Sophie had four brothers and two sisters, and Emily found them all fascinating.

Rylan was the oldest. He had a way with both people and animals that Emily envied. When a storm of drama and upheaval was swirling around, Rylan would walk in, say a few calm words, and capture everyone’s attention within a minute. He also never missed an opportunity to tease or annoy Emily. Although he was the ducal heir, he was happiest outside with the horses, and his mother was frequently appalled at how dirty he always seemed to be. Nicolas was the next brother, and he was passionate about art and trying to work his way up in the London art world. Sophie was next in line followed by her sister Alessandra who would have her first season next year. Next came Lucas, Jeremiah, and finally the youngest Ellen.

Sophie enjoyed coming to Emily’s house for the opposite reason. While everything in her house was noisy and dramatic, she cherished the soothing quiet in Emily’s house. Sophie would come…
